Composites Technician

Work Location: San Luis Obispo, CA
Full Time Non-Exempt (Hourly) Position
40-hour work week on premises

Salary Range: $17-$26 an hour

Position Summary
A composites technician combines hands-on skills with a strong knowledge of materials including their proper handling and required personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Following all shop safety requirements
  • Completing documentation of components’ progress through the shop (Composites are a progression of assembly of the drone in stages)
  • Working in a collaborative environment
  • Follow verbal and written instructions to configure and assemble composite components
  • Configure, assemble, and bond raw composite materials and components
  • Post-process finishing such as sanding, cutting, trimming, deburring, cleaning, priming, and painting by hand
  • Assist engineering and other production staff in resolving issues related to equipment and processes if needed
  • Following all office procedures, including tracking hours and cleaning up workspaces

Qualifications

  • Requires Respirator use for up to 8 hours a day.
  • Standing for 2 consistent hours at a time
  • Experience in a fabrication, assembly, manufacturing, or engineering environment
  • Enjoys working with their hands
  • Able to work together on a team
  • The ability to follow verbal and written procedures, good communication skills
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and listen to others
  • Safety and quality minded, pays attention to details

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with composites, resins, adhesives, coatings, measurement tools,
  • Experience crafting, woodworking or assembly.
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Experience planning, supervision, and coordination
  • Familiarity with Personal Protective Equipment
  • Computer literacy
  • Any experience with process tracking documentation
  • Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Will be cross trained in other areas of Composites

Hiring Requirements

  • If an offer of employment offer is extended, candidate must have the ability to pass a background check and may need to have the ability to be insured by the Company’s Auto-policy. Offer of Employment is contingent upon the results.

The candidate must meet the physical demands described here to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Most work is performed in enclosed buildings. This position is primarily housed on a manufacturing floor. While performing the duties, the candidate is frequently exposed to chemicals, dust, and dirt. There will be sitting and standing for extended lengths of time. The vision requirement includes close vision, distant vision, and computer vision. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate manufacturing equipment, and build assemblies. Ability to carry up to 50 pounds. PPE for production and PPE for infectious diseases includes a facial mask, respirator, safety glasses, and protective gloves as necessary. These ADA and FEHA requirements are not inclusive of the performed and responsibilities to be held by the candidate.
